Here are a few pointers to help you search this public school information system.

Step 1:  You may search by school, district, city, or zip code.  If you know the school or district name, enter it in the top box. Now press <GO>, and you'll get a list of the schools and districts in California whose name includes the word(s) or letters you typed.

TIP: The less you type, the more schools and districts you'll find. Alternatively, you can enter a city name or zip code in the second box. If you type the city's name, the list you get will include all schools in that city. If you type the zip code, the same thing will occur. 

TIP: You can widen your zip code search by entering four digits.  You can widen your city search by typing only part of the city’s name.

Step 2: From the list of schools, choose the school you want, and click on its name. The next screen you see will put the school you selected at the top, and show you all other schools at the same grade level (elementary, middle or high) in the same district for reference.  To the right of the school's name, you’ll see two reports to choose from: a Fact Sheet in English or Spanish, and a School Profile.

Step 3: Click on the report you'd like to see. The Fact Sheet is a one-page report (8.5x14). The School Profile runs 14–16 pages (8.5x11). Both will open in Adobe Acrobat.

Step 4: You can now read the report right on screen, save it to disk, or print it.

Reports cover 9,000 public schools in California. Private school reports are not available at this time.

Two reports await you. The Fact Sheets are one-page reports that distill schools' vital signs about teachers, students, resources, test scores, and measures of progress.

School Profiles are 12-to-14 page reports that provide more than 50 facts, along with comparative benchmarks and plenty of guidance and interpretation. The reports reveal how a school compares with other schools at the same grade level in the county and state.
